Like every online RPG these days, it has high fantasy. But it also has a different flavor that makes it stand out, mostly because of its strong focus on humor.

Let me start by saying the game is free. That means that whether you are interested in buying a more expensive premium version for your mobile device or not, there is no reason not to download and try it out.

Gameplay

What is RISE, Tarnished about?

There is definitely no shortage of RPGs on the App Store. This is especially true since the introduction of Apple Arcade by Apple and all the games that are part of it. A couple of these games are really fun, some are interesting, some are action packed and some are addictive. However, one thing is true: They all have the same quality.

It looks like a RPG. It has leveling and progression, combat system, dungeons, a world map, quest line and a linear story. It offers to the player up to three character to choose to start the game on. (There are different advantages and disadvantages to each character.)

The thing that makes RISE, Tarnished stand out from the crowd is that it has a lot of humor. This is not the kind of humor where you laugh at someone else. Rather, the humor is inserted into the game in a more subtle way. Almost as if it was supposed to happen the way it did. There is a story, but no quests. But there is an advantage to this: While you may feel like you have been playing the game to complete the quests, there is no reason to do so.

As someone who had previously loved the adventure of The Witcher, I was looking forward to see how the story and characters were handled in RISE, Tarnished. Let me tell you that it was unexpected. To be honest, I expected to play a standard RPG with leveling and progression, all the usual stuff. But this adventure was more about aspects of human life, both the good and the bad.
