This game was born from a deep and mysterious love for the mysterious world of concept art and the blood-drenched dungeons of over-the-top fantasy RPGs. It was created as a tribute to the personaly favorite game mechanics I’ve seen in all the different games I’ve played over the years:

Tenebrae is a crossover game where each character has their own unique set of assets that can be used to create an insane amount of combinations and situations for the player. The game has a set of predefined elements that can be unlocked and improved over time with a constant stream of gold earned by playing.
The original idea of the game is to find a way to combine all these different elements in a fun, competitive manner (the “holy grail” of videogames!) while at the same time remaining as fair as possible. It was meant to be something of a crazy game that would contain all the elements that I find to be the funniest or most pleasing when I play a game.
Currently this game contains two characters, with more in the works. A third character is also being prototyped as we speak!

This year, to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the modern Catholic Church in the United States, I went back to the beginnings of my religious journey. As a teenager, my boyfriend-to-be, a devout young Lutheran, accepted Baptism at the home of members of the First Baptist Church (where I was not a member). According to him, he was baptized in the “original” Emmanuel Church, when I believe he was actually being baptized in the independent Emmanuel Community Church — both of which were affiliated with the Baptist-Evangelical Reformed Church. (Yes, this all sounds pretty weird to me now. To this day, I can’t walk into a Baptist church in a hurry.)
After I pursued my BA degree at Duquesne University, I went to seminary to gain a license to preach. There I happened to meet a priest from the Diocese of Pittsburgh, who said he had attended my Baptist church as a boy. I struck up a conversation with him and by the end of the visit, I resolved to enter the priesthood.
In some ways, I was incredibly naïve about that decision at the time. I knew, in the abstract, that gays were welcomed in the Church. In the concrete, as in the Baptist Church, I knew that only heterosexuals could be Church leaders or ministers. I knew that I would have trouble ever marrying a woman as a Catholic priest because I didn’t want to leave the Church. But I was convinced that the Catholic Church was evolving in a good way, from a House of God to a House of God and Love.
I was reminded of my Baptist church experience recently as I remember the story of one parish priest I knew, who I will call Father R. He was leading a small parish in a rural area and the people loved him. He had an enthusiasm and sense of humor that drew people in. So they asked him to officiate their weddings and he finally said yes. To my surprise, years later I learned that Father R. had been gay, and he had been living with a male partner for many years. I have no doubt that as a priest and minister he was an attractive person to other men.
Back then, if I knew he was gay, how could I have possibly introduced him to people in the parish? I would have been betraying my Church!
My buddy, Fr. R, later became Bishop of Nevada. I like to think that

About This Game:
This is a life-or-death post-apocalyptic game where you create your own rules for survival in an apocalyptic town. Become the mayor of a village and fashion your world to your liking.
Inspired by games like Dwarf Fortress and Tropico, the management simulation genre, SURVIVE is a town builder where you can start with nothing, and slowly build up a town to last your lifetime.
Build houses, plant crops, research new buildings, fight wars, and act as judge and jury for crime. Help the town grow, or lead it to an early death. Make your town a great place to live or a hell hole that breeds misery. Decide how people feel, what they believe, and what crimes they commit.
There are many options for how you can play the game. Don’t like the current ruling system? Simply start with a new one that suits you. Want to make the town cheap and nasty? Nothing will stop you. You can use violence or you can try to improve your town by making it more educated, kind, progressive, and peaceful.
Do what you want, and when you are done, you’ll be able to save your town and return at any time to continue.
