Game system

OSU is a variation on a theme of games that also includes 2048. However, unlike the original 2048, OSU was built with an HTML-based, JavaScript-powered interface and a custom game engine that allows OSU to run on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

The mechanics of the game are the same as 2048: one obtains bricks by clearing lines of block-shaped tiles. However, the number of brick types and arrangements is different, and although the game ends after four minutes if no tile is cleared, clearing one tile reveals new rules and tiles that are not accessible in the original 2048, making the game much longer.

Furthermore, the game differs from many other 2048 games in that the number of lines in a row is not fixed, which means that some brick patterns may require a larger row than others.

This is the foundation of our game for the past 2 years, and we continue to improve it every few weeks. We release the framework to our many users, and it helps guide our development for the next few years. It is a platform that has been proven and made sure to work well with osu!.
Second is our graphics toolkit. This is for us to make our game looks great when it is running on Android. It is heavily based on OpenGL ES 2.0 and SDL, and it works very well with it. We have modified these for the many ways that Android can modify them, and we give a huge amount of flexibility to our graphics.
Third is the custom framework we have. When building our game from our base, we use a certain framework. What this is is up to you to decide, and it is based around Unity and Mono. In Unity, you tell it what to build, and you give it what you need. This allows us to use a far more fast and easy approach to development. Mono allows us to use.NET, the framework we use is based on. It is at the top of the stack, so it is always running and is as close to the actual system as possible.
