Cabinet Measuring Guide

Cabinet Measurement Checklist

Measure the height of the ceiling. Browse to see that the entire ceiling is the same height. (Note soffits and drop ceilings.)

Measure the length of all walls with cabinets on them. Note if walls are open or closed on each side. (Leave 2 inches at open ends for countertop edging.)

Measure the width of windows including the frame. Also measure the distance from the edge of the window to the corner or end. Note if there’s going to be cabinets above the window and the height above it.

Measure the width of the range or cook top. Mark the distance from the center of the range or cook top to the nearest corner or end.

Mark down the distance from the center of the opening for the hood to the nearest corner or end. Note what type of hood it’s going to be; undercabinet, microhood, or chimney style.

Measure the center of the plumbing to the nearest corner or end. Note if the plumbing is irregular. Mark the location of the dishwasher, standard is 24”. Normally the sink will be centered on the window if there is a window.

Measure the width and the height of the refrigerator, mark the location. Standard is 36”(w)x72”(h).

We recommend leaving at least 36 inches on each side of the island. Standard overhang for counter is 10”.

Mark down any other notes or irregularities.

The easiest way to complete an order is to attach a layout of your space to the design portion of our website and we will complete the design and recommend all the required pieces to complete your order.
In general you will need the following to complete an order:
Base Cabinets
Wall Cabinets
Pantry Cabinets
Oven Cabinets
Vanity Cabinets
Skin Panels
Crown Molding
Toe Kicks
Scribe Molding
When designing your kitchen, standard allowance for backsplash space is 16”h to 18”h minimum.
Walk space between cabinets and islands should be 40” clear which will be 36” inch when the counter is added.
Wall cabinets will drop 1” from the ceiling for small crown molding and 2 ½” for large crown molding.
All cabinets will require assembly during install.
Most cabinets will require finish panels for completion except for Cinnamon Shaker and Elegant Cherry.
Base Cabinets
Base cabinets come in widths from 9” to 36”
They will be offered in standard base with drawer on top and door below, sink bases, lazy susan, blind corner base, or drawer base that has 3 drawers.
We also have 15”w trash pull-out cabinets, Diagonal end and open shelf end cabinets.
Wall Cabinets

Special wall cabinets will include Microwave, Wine, Dish rack (Antique and Cherry), Diagonal Ends, and Open Shelf Ends.
Pantry Cabinets
There are two type of pantry cabinets offered based on the cabinet collection you choose. One type of pantry cabinet consists of two cabinets stacked. The bottom cabinet is 54”h and the top cabinet will be 30” h, 36”h, or 42”h. It is possible during install to trim the bottom of the toe kick to make slight adjustments for ceiling height. It is also possible to modify the interior during cabinet assembly and install to accommodate your specific needs. The second type of pantry cabinet is premade as a single unit and offered in different heights and widths. These will be offered according to the cabinet collection you choose.
Oven Cabinets
There are two types of oven cabinets. One type oven cabinet is created by stacking oven base cabinet, appliance and upper cabinets between two vertical 24” x 96” x 1” Refrigerator/Oven panels. The second type is premade in different heights, widths and offers double or single oven installation. You will have a choice based on the cabinet collection you choose.

Skin Panels
Skin panels are used on all cabinets except Cinnamon Shaker and Elegant Cherry. This is a ¼” skin panel to cover the exposed exterior end of base, wall, and pantry cabinets. These skin panels must be used to cover the raw wood box for a finished look. You will see these offered for base, wall in different heights, pantry and island type to cover the exposed front.
Crown Moldings
If you are installing crown molding allow 1” to 2 ½” drop from the ceiling with your wall cabinets.
You will have a choice of either small crown molding or large crown moldings. Both these sizes will be offered in different looks.
Crown Moldings come in 96” lengths and will need to be cut to fit during install.
The crown moldings will attach to the top of the cabinet with approx ½” overlap.
Toe Kick
The toe kick is a piece 4 ½”h x 96 x ¼” that is used to cover the vertical joints at the base of all the cabinets and complete the color finish. These can be cut to size during install and is generally one of the last pieces installed.
Scribe Molding
Scribe moldings are a finish molding ¾” x 96” x ¼” used to finish where cabinets meet the walls.
Corner Scribe Moldings
Corner scribe moldings 1” x 1” x 96” are corner moldings usually used on island base cabinets installed vertically along the outside edge to have a finished look on the corner.
