For the purposes of this particular post, I’ll stick to the Colleges and Universities of the New York area (CUNY), where I spend the bulk of my time. As my first president, I’ll talk about what it’s like to work there. It’s an interesting time, and I’m happy to take the opportunity to explain how I’m managing. The Daily Ruckus I try to get out every week. It was actually the first job that I had where I went on campus regularly. Since then, I have continued to go out to things like teas and coffees with the staff. In the beginning I gave a weekly address, and later that evolved into a series of talks that I gave a lot. The Ruckus is basically an all day seminar that the leadership team leads every Tuesday morning. It’s not a lecture, but, rather, a great place to have discussions on a range of topics. In the past, the group has covered everything from building classrooms to crisis communication, but I’ve recently started to focus on talking about community relations. It’s something that I’m very excited to be learning and talking about, and it’s worked out very well. I try to do something with the staff once a month. It started out with a quick round of holiday hanky-panky, but I’ve recently started to schedule a lunch or meal with my team more frequently
