This alternate history setting was inspired by the philosophical works of William Shakespeare, H. G. Wells, John Bunyan, Frederick Douglass, and Jules Verne. The game follows protagonist of the Booker DeWitt character who belongs to a fictional religion named the Church of the Summit which is based on Puritanism of New England. He is tasked with enacting a ritual that will prevent the mysterious and powerful Enemy from ever being able to possess the powerful energy known as “Plutus” – the “lifeblood of the infinite” – which is the source of all life and which the Enemy seeks to harness for its own use. With the help of his mentor, a mysterious woman named Songbird, Booker sets out to find three legendary Plutonic Plagues, an artifact in the form of a key that can seal or unleash the Plagues, and a powerfully-influenced young woman named Elizabeth. As the plot progresses, Booker descends deeper into the city to realize that he is not the only one attempting to halt the hordes of the Enemy. Bioshock Infinite was published by 2K Games on the platforms of the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
