It’s been a long time coming, but we’ve finally got an actual release date for the Oculus Rift (Knuckles) headset. PlayStation VR will be available in early 2016. So now that we know the date, what can you expect from The Unspoken? Recently I’ve become more aware of how most people perceive motion sickness in VR. During development, I spent a lot of time playing around with just about every single motion-based horror game on the market, putting my limits to the test. Before I started working on The Unspoken, I knew the concept wasn’t going to be for everyone – not even though I had a very strong impression that I wouldn’t suffer from motion sickness. In the end, that was what allowed me to spend my free time months on end playing. Your subconscious mind hasn’t even realized there’s a rift I actually thought that my motion sickness issues were caused by the motion of the real world, not the motion of the virtual world. In most other VR experiences, this is indeed true. You’re definitely not experiencing the exact same sensation as you would in the real world. I actually thought that most motion sickness was caused by just that – difference in sensations. However, with The Unspoken, this is simply not the case. I would suffer terribly from motion sickness while playing not only The Unspoken, but also Hover Junkers, The Brookhaven Experiment, The Graveyard, The Chamber, The Damned, and many others. In all of these games, you are in the middle of a large open area, moving around as if in the real world, with no objects to “move” around you. I’ve experienced countless head movements while playing not only The Unspoken, but also Hover Junkers, The Brookhaven Experiment, The Graveyard, The Chamber, The Damned, and many others.
