In my iPhone app I need to have the user press a button in my app that will take some input, but do not wish to put the input in the AppDelegate.m file.
So I have something like this:

And I’d like the user to press a button in the app and have it take input, but I want to not have the input in AppDelegate.m.

No, you can not do this. Not without the code being in the app delegate.
Why not put the input in the app delegate then just call this code from anywhere you want, and you won’t have to worry about input validation.
Also there is no reason to have the code in the app delegate, you can put it in the view controller.
