SoundKitchen has released “MiniSoundKill” VST plugin for VST 3.0/Windows and Mac. MiniSoundKill offers two effects at once. The first is a noise gate, which works as expected, but also as a quick and dirty compressor. This is very similar to the noise gate effect of Adobe Audition’s compressor plug-in: similar behavior and hard limit.
The second effect is a distortion which can be used as both a compressor and a limiter. This second effect works as advertised, but is slightly oversaturated compared to distortion effect in other programs (e.g. Voxengo Reaktor).
For the price, this is a solid VST plugin, and we use it regularly. You have the choice of using a preset or a dynamic setup. The dynamic setup is more flexible: you can define parameters such as threshold and ratio. An example of this is found in the image shown below.

The MiniSoundKill Torrent Download plugin transforms incoming audio into a static sound. It has six effect parameters which are based on a % modulation effect for each of the respective six oscillators. The impulse response of the sound at the end of the modulation can be modified using the AcousTech Airplane Preamp, Volume & Gain Control.
If the Transient on Shout Input is activated, the effect becomes more kick-heavy and some analog distortion is created. If Transient is inactive, the sound becomes more relaxed.
The Decay, Release, Ring and Boost parameters are fixed in functionality and are unaffected by different sound effects. The effect of the modulation is completely dynamic and can be easily controlled, also on the frequency of the modulation.
As an example, a sound with an almost entirely wet sound will normally have a clearly audible pitch shift that is a static effect.
In principle, using different frequencies for the modulation will allow for complete control over the sound characteristics of the effect. If you don’t want a pitch shift, setting the modulation frequency closer to the audio sample rate will have the desired effect.
The settings are presented here for the typical effects of a radio distortion or a police scanner, but the effect can also be used for the acoustic guitar by adding one of the presets.
Please note, that the audio sample rate of the output has to be the same as the input.
